Launceston Passenger Terminal

Launceston Airport Passenger Terminal, photographed in December 1970. The ICAO code for Launceston was AMLT (now YMLT) and the IATA code was LST. The upper floor of the Terminal housed the combined Area Control Centre and Flight Service Centre.

The aircraft is Trans-Australia Airlines Douglas DC-9-31 VH-TJK Douglas Mawson. This was the second of three DC-9s ordered for TAA in 1965. It was registered VH-TJK on 15 April 1967 and delivered the following month. On 19 June 1971 it operated the last scheduled passenger service to arrive at Melbourne's Essendon Airport. It was withdrawn from use by TAA in November 1982 and sold to the USA, becoming N908AX and later N951R.
